Touro Alum, Jacob Weinstein, Presents Paper at the 17th Annual Jewish Law Association International Conference

Dean Patricia Salkin attended (on her first day on the job) the Jewish Law Association's 17th International Conference yesterday where Professor Sam Levine chaired a plenary session and alum Jacob Weinstein '11 presented during the session.

(Touro Law Center alumnus Jacob Weinstein presenting an interesting discussion on eye witness testimony in criminal law matters under both U.S. and Jewish law at the Jewish Law Association Conference. He is working on a second paper on the duty to rescue...an affirmative duty under Jewish law, but not under U.S. common law.)

NYSBA Teams with Law Schools for New Internships

Touro Law Center and the New York State Bar Association are partnering in a new internship opportunity for our students.  The Real Property Law Section of the NYSBA is actively soliciting host law firms to serve as mentors for students from Touro and other law schools.  The law school will solicit resumes from interested students and forward them to the host firms for consideration.

Professor Lewis Silverman, Director of Externship Programs at Touro, commented:  “Primarily because of our suburban setting, many of our students have a keen interest in pursuing opportunities in real estate, both residential and commercial.  We think it is exciting that the New York State Bar Association has recognized the student interest and is actively seeking attorneys from the practicing bar to serve as mentors for law students.  Our incoming dean, Patricia Salkin, also has a special expertise in real property law, and I am sure that this partnership will serve our students well, both in their educational endeavors and in future employment opportunities.”

Students interested in any of these positions should submit their resumes to the Career Services Office.  The positions will be eligible for credit either in the Civil Practice Externship for the Spring, 2013 semester, or immediately as an Independent Externship in conjunction with a substantive law course.  For more information contact Prof. Lewis Silverman, Director of Externship Programs,LSilverman@tourolaw.edu.

Interesting Article: "Are social media making the resume obsolete?"

CNN has an interesting article about whether or not various forms of social media are making the traditional resume obsolete. We don't think the legal market is this far along, but it may be a sign of things to come. At the very least, the article shows the importance of being well informed about social media.
